Recently I did a wedding with a couple who hired a “content creator.”

“A what now?” Immediately my interest was piqued. This was something completely new to me, seven years and 300 or so weddings into my Wedding Lady job.

The Content Creator came to rehearsal and then spent quite a number of hours with the couple on the Wedding Day. And she was LOVELY, so I thought I’d like to introduce her to you.

How did she get to be a Content Creator?

Brit comes to her new career as a “writer, storyteller and strategist” from a background of marketing and hospitality at world class hotels where she was involved with corporate and private special events, including many weddings.

Her experience in that industry honed her instinct for anticipating people’s needs, for noticing when special moments were happening, and for judging when it’s appropriate to hover, to withdraw, or to intervene. She observes people’s attitudes, body language, and how they communicate with each other and with the professionals they’ve hired. Her intuition is finely tuned and rarely wrong!

In her role as Content Creator, she is there to support the other professionals like the photographer and the videographer. Brit’s role is to enhance the experience for the couple and their guests, not to replace the other service providers.

What does she actually do?

Brit consults with the couple in advance to find out what they’re looking for and determining the overlap of their visions.  During the events, she spends time with the couple and their guests taking videos on her iPhone 14 Pro max.

For the wedding we worked together, in 8 hours she took nearly 400 video clips, ranging from 15 to 90 seconds. From that, she curated the number down to about 200, taking out the ones that didn’t really show anything, where the sound was bad, lighting was not advantageous, where the videos were duplicates of the action or didn’t show people well. (She didn’t give examples, but I imagine that would be things like people ugly crying, people eating, talking with their mouths full, wardrobe malfunctions, or just doing stupid things.) That gallery is sent to the couple within 24 hours. They can post them on social media, or share them as they choose.

From that gallery of about 200 videos, Brit makes several highlight reels – like the rehearsal dinner, with folks meeting each other and getting to know each other; or highlights of getting ready; or the ceremony including special moments of the entrance, the vows, the rings, the kiss, the exit. Even the after party, and all the moments in between. Those reels are sent to the couple within 48 hours.

That’s a wickedly tight timeline and incredibly intense work on a small screen! Brit is a master of Instagram, and InShot, a robust and sophisticated video-editing app.

What is the benefit of having a Content Creator?

“I tell the story of the day. Guests can put away their phones and be fully present and in the moment. Couples get to enjoy looking back on these memories without seeing smartphones in every photo or video.

“The couple doesn’t get to see the build-up to the ceremony, the setting up, the arrival of guests, the interactions of people as they wait. All those beautiful, unscripted, and candid moments like the look a groom gives his bride, like he’s falling in love with her all over again.

“It  brings me so much joy to be able to provide this look into their day, showing the parts they don’t get to see, and the parts they want to relive again. In comparison, a video produced by the videographer is more like the movie of their love story on their wedding day, curated and edited by the videographer, and their vision of the couple’s day.”

The content that Brit films is partly what the couple requests – the emotions, the details, moments of the day that the couple and their guests can all enjoy reliving. The moments are unscripted, unplanned, fly-on-the-wall observations of connections as they happen. “I imagine what I’d want to have captured if it were my family and friends. All the realness. I capture it all unfolding, letting people be themselves.”

Who is your Ideal Couple?

“I’m a romantic at heart. I love to work with couples who are deeply and authentically in love. Their style is cinematic, elegant, timeless, and chic. Some of these couples just have me in tears. Their love is palpable. I can’t even….

Couples who want to film social media trends or TikTok dances are not my cup of tea. I’m all for collaborating, experimenting, and doing things that don’t make sense — to a degree. But my ideal couple craves a timeless experience.” Brit is respectful of what the couple wants, so if it’s not a good fit, she’s more than happy to help them find their ideal content creator.

“Beyond the couple are the other wedding professionals. I research the people I’ll be working with – the make-up artists, hair stylists, wedding planners, photographers, and videographers. It’s important for me to surround myself with hardworking, kind, and talented people, people who are there for the couple and bring a sincere and welcoming energy.”

What are some challenges of being a Content Creator?

“Couples who don’t show emotions are a tremendous challenge for a Content Creator. Their love language may not be touch. They might not show their intimacy and connection to each other. Their anxiety levels might be high and they are unable to relax and be themselves. The couple may not want to be the centre of attention – or one does and the other doesn’t.

“That’s a huge challenge for the Content Creator because the job is to tell the story, to catch the moments between the photos, to capture emotions. But in these cases, I have a few tricks up my sleeve to produce beautiful content the couple will enjoy filming, and reliving.”

For example, a couple wanted to say their vows privately before the ceremony after the First Look. “I am not there to spy on your vows,” Brit explains. “I am there to capture the intimacy of each of you hearing each other profess your vows.” In that way, the impact of the moment is captured. Couples often say that they remember very little of their wedding day; what a treasure it would be to have a video clip of and extraordinary moment like that! That’s why Brit will go above and beyond. Even as far as hiding in a bush, with the couple’s consent of course, to capture the purest, most authentic, and beautiful memories.

Final advice for couples

“My advice for couples when choosing a wedding content creator, is to find a creative whose style and vision you are obsessed with. Ensure they have a keen eye for detail, and bonus if they have event planning experience. It’s important your content creator works well with your media team, like a shadow floating behind the scenes. Bonus if they carry your lip gloss and offer touch ups.”

To quote her Instagram, Brit is “a woman who demonstrates exceptional talent, and innovation in three different creative areas, combining them to produce unique and impactful work.”
